We are hiring multiple positions for the April – October 2019 time-frame only.
The Aransas National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) is a hidden gem located in the center of the Texas Coastal Bend, and is the winter home for the infamous whooping crane! Located near the town of Rockport, and fifty miles north of Corpus Christi, Aransas NWR is an impressive 116,000 acres, and is a mecca for birding and fishing.
This is an exciting time here at Aransas, as we are in the process of rebuilding in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. Unfortunately, many of our facilities were damaged, but we now have the opportunity to reconstruct—undergoing a refuge renaissance, per se. Thus, we are looking for maintenance volunteers to be a part of our team. Couples are welcome, and the applicant's partner may work for visitor services.
Maintenance duties vary widely, as we have so many projects to complete: rebuilding boardwalks, picnic shelters, fencing; painting; auto maintenance; mowing, and trail clearing; installing of new signage, etc.
Use of some hand tools required. No professional experience necessary, but having handy skills is a plus. However the most important skill is having a positive attitude.
Volunteers will be issued shirts and hats to wear.
Personal protective equipment (gloves, eyewear, hard hats) are issued and required for certain tasks.
A valid driver’s license is required.
Volunteers must be able to pass a federal background check.
We ask that volunteers commit to three months (90 days), but we would be happy to have you longer. Each volunteer must commit three days (24 hours) worth of work per week for an RV pad.
HOUSING & AMENITIES Type: Trailer/RV Pads Description: RV pad with 30 and 50 amp electricity, water, septic, and picnic table. There is a common area with a washer, dryer, shower, refrigerator, full kitchen, television, cell booster and Wi-Fi. RV pads are in exchange for 24 hours per week, minimum 3 months. Maximum 10 months.
