Visitor Center volunteers staff the front desk at the Gladie Visitor Center in the heart of the beautiful Red River Gorge. Volunteers greet visitors, and provide excellent customer service by answering questions related to recreational opportunities, natural and cultural resources, and Forest rules and regulations. Volunteers also assist with Forest activities including special events, programs, and educating the public about Leave No Trace principles.
You will serve as Collection Officer to sell items as National Forest maps, recreation fee passes, OHV passes, and Golden Age Passports. When not at the Visitor Center, you may assist with programs given at trailheads, points of interest, and at the historic Gladie Cabin. You may also be able to assist with numerous special events such as Living Archeology Weekend, trout stockings, fishing derbies, amongst many others.
As time and skills permit, you may also have opportunities to assist with special projects such as creating visitor center exhibits, updating and/or writing forest brochures, and improving online content.
The best candidates will be outgoing and comfortable interacting with the public in a professional manner.
The Gladie Center is typically open April-November. We request volunteers work minimum of 24 hours per week. Length of term is negotiable. Position works weekends and holidays.
