Duties: Assists seasonal and permanent interpretive staff at the Paradise/Longmire Visitor Centers. Duties are related to resource education and conservation, visitor services, and visitor safety. Volunteers would staff the visitor centers, assisting in opening and closing the building. While staffing the visitor center, they would advise visitors on the recreational opportunities at the park. In the course of these duties they would also be responsible for assisting families and children with the Junior Ranger Program. They also may be responsible of tracking visitor statistics, filing lost and found reports, and other administrative tasks as assigned. There will also be opportunities to share information with park visitors roving the trails at and near Paradise.
Experience with visitor center operations
Experience in providing information and orientation to park visitors
Experience in providing quality customer service
Experience in roving and informal interpretation.
Experience running a cash register
Training: Volunteers will be able to attend the annual seasonal training at the end of May/beginning of June. The park will also provide training in operations and running the sales center.
Season/hours: Work schedule and assignments are coordinated by the West District Interpreter or the most senior member of the staff in his absence. Schedules are flexible, from a few days a week to 40 hours a week, depending upon the interests and schedule of the candidate. Work schedules coincide with our visitor center hours, so generally speaking from 8:45 to 5:15
