• Weed/Invasive Species Control
The tallgrass prairie within the monument's boundary is infested with buckthorn, an invasive species, that is taking over the grounds. The volunteer in this position will be responsible for proper removal of the buckthorn.
Training and personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided. After training, the volunteer will function autonomously. This means that supervision will be minimal - the volunteer will sign in upon arrival so that staff knows they are onsite, grab the tools, radio, and PPE provided, work for however long they would like to, and sign out upon return of the equipment.
Whether it's just for a couple of hours a week or more, the staff will be grateful for assistance in getting this issue under control.
Start Date: Whenever the volunteer would like to
Volunteer requirements: None. As long as you are not afraid of working in the heat or with buckthorn, you can do this. Work as many hours as you like and whenever you are available to do so. There is a great degree of flexibility with this job.
