Note: This opportunity is available for those within commuting distance of Rocky Mountain National Park. There is no government housing/campsite associated with this position.
Wild Basin is in the southern part of Rocky Mountain Naitonal Park, located about 20 minutes south of the town of Estes Park along Highway 7. Wild Basin is an area of high alpine scenery, as well as incomparable waterfalls and is a popular destination for many hikers and backpackers visiting the park.
Shifts Needed to Fill:
One (2) Person on Saturday can choose from: 8am-4pm, 7am-2pm, 9am-3pm
Two (1) People on Monday can choose from: 8am-4pm, 7am-2pm, 9am-3pm
Volunteers staff the parking area, trailhead and ranger station, and may rove up to one mile from the trailhead, assisting visitors with park orientation and information.
Volunteers assist park staff at the Wild Basin Ranger Station. Duties include:
Disseminating information on backcountry conditions and hiking trails
Issuing backcountry permits
Selling Rocky Mountain Conservancy materials, safe guarding funds and maintaining records
Directing parking, working in the ranger station. and assisting with resource management and maintenance projects
To the extent qualified, providing emergency assistance to visitors
When necessary, driving a government vehicle, Must have a valid drivers llicense.
And, provided that volunteers meet the requirements stipulated in the Backcountry Ranger Operations Procedures, assisting park rangers by making backcountry patrols and checking trail conditions.
NOTE: This VIP postion does not include supervising or monitoring visitors on the trails
