Minimum commitment: 16 to32 hours per week, depending on scheduling needs.

Location of position: Entrance Station
Number of volunteers needed: 1 volunteer
Visitor Use Assistants (VUAs) collect entrance fees and issue recreational passes to visitors. Other duties include greeting visitors in the Entrance Station, handing out the park brochure and newspaper, answering visitor questions about the park and local area, answering the park phone, and other duties as assigned and agreed upon.
Customer service skills, phone skills, radio communications, retail sales skills, etc. are desired but can be taught if necessary. The ability to pass a fee collection background investigation is required. Must be bondable.
Additional skills such as carpentry, painting, etc. are also welcome but not required. Candidates may be asked to assist with other projects as needed by the Chief Ranger.
VUAs often stand for long periods of time and may be required to lift up to 30 lbs. Although the duty station is inside an air conditioned booth, VUAs may be exposed to extreme weather conditions (heat, direct sunlight, cold, rain, etc.).

Volunteers receive training in National Park Service mission and policies. Volunteers have the opportunity to receive training in CPR and First Aid, and interpretation. Volunteers have the opportunity to enjoy the scenery, wildlife, and cultural resources of the spectacular Padre Island National Seashore, encompassing 130,434 acres.
