This Opportunity is well suited for a people orientated couple. Located approximately 16 miles northeast of Helena, on Hauser Lake, Devil's Elbow Recreation Area is a popular destination boat launch. The 48 site campground fills up fast throughout the summer. The small beach and swim area receive heavy day use whenever it's warm. There is also a group reservation area that remains booked for the summer.
You Will Be Managing. This is a 48-site campground that has spacious and level gravel parking pads that accomodates RVs, campter trailers and tents. Of the 48 sites, there are 5 sites that are designated tent only and there is also a 6-site group camping area. Reservations are available through recreation.gov for the group camping in Loop C and individual camping in Loop A (accomodates both RVs and tents). The Park Ranger will teach volunteers about the reservation system and the sites that follow the first-come, first-served rules. We want you to make sure the camping and day use fees are being paid. However, you will not collect any money. Some people need to be politely reminded about the 10pm quiet hours and to turn off their generators. Also, keeping their dogs off the beach, and on their leash. You will be asked lots of common questions. You will be assisting a seasonal Park Ranger that works weekends.
You Will Be Cleaning. Ten concrete vault style toilets need to be frequently cleaned and re-stocked with toilet paper. We have all the supplies. The 48 camping sites each have a fire ring that periodically need emptied of ashes. Garbage that misses the trash cans will also need to be picked-up.
Grounds Maintenance. Park Rangers and Maintenance Workers are on-site, but if willing to help with grounds maintenance, please work with the Park Ranger lead.
What You Get. There is a pad to park your RV that has full hook-ups. We will also reimburse you a meal stipend. This commitment will run from May through Columbus Day. Weekend duties will be required. There are 2 paved volunteer camp pads, so we will have at least 2 separate volunteers allowing volunteer to enjoy their days on and off.
Background Check: A background check will be required prior to serving as a campground host.
Mandatory Training: Volunteers will be required to attend volunteer orientation at the beginning of May (usually the first week of May). Volunteers will receive orientation regarding the rules and regulations of the BLM volunteer program and the site.
HOUSING & AMENITIES Type: Trailer/RV Pads Description: Paved camping pads. Cell phone service is functional. No internet provided.
