The Wilderness Ranger District, Gila National Forest is looking for enthusiastic, friendly volunteers who enjoy the outdoors to fill a campground host opportunity. The Host(s) will need to provide their own living quarters; e.g., trailer or recreation vehicle (RV). They should be in the campground and available to the public 5 days out of each week, plus holidays, per their volunteer agreement. Days typically needing coverage are Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Service hours are flexible, but core service hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 5 days a week.
The campground is located next to a small lake with fishing a regular recreational activity. This campground is relatively remote, averaging 32 miles from town, and are not continuously full.
Campground Host Duties: campground cleanup, restroom cleaning, restocking of paper goods may be needed, picking up litter, raking sites, cleaning fire rings and picnic tables. Host(s) must have good people skills, be responsible and neat in appearance. The Host(s) must be physically able to perform such tasks as raking, shoveling, mopping and sweeping, performing minor maintenance, inspecting the campground, keeping simple maintenance records, monitoring area use, and occasionally filling out forms.
Host(s) will represent the Forest Service in public contacts, providing information and directions, and reporting vandalism and other problems to Forest Service personnel. All necessary tools, supplies, and safety equipment will be provided by the Forest Service, along with appropriate training. Applicants may be subject to a background check.
Amenities provided include a pull-through campsite, water, electricity, sewer, propane, Forest Service Radio and volunteer shirt/hat. No cell service or wi-fi coverage.
