D.C. BOOTH IS CURRENTLY ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2018 SUMMER SEASON.
D.C. Booth Historic National Fish Hatchery and Archives in Spearfish, South Dakota has a very large and diverse volunteer program (over 14,000 hours donated annually). Although volunteer opportunities abound, our most popular opportunity is for visiting volunteers (RVers). Visiting volunteers are welcome from April through October. In exchange for 15-24 hour/week/person, volunteers are given a premium RV site in the Spearfish City Campground (right across from the hatchery) with full hookups, cable TV, and high-speed wireless internet. Volunteers generally work a 3-days-on 3-days-off schedule with 5-6 hour shifts.
Volunteers work primarily in the gift shop; giving tours of the historic Booth house (1905); and manning the historic hatchery museum and restored fisheries railcar.
D.C. Booth has the ability to accommodate 10 volunteer couples throughout the volunteer season. Singles are also encouraged to apply.
Off-season, museum-specific, and maintenance-specific volunteers are also encouraged to apply and contact the volunteer program coordinator. Spearfish is a small community nestled in the northern Black Hills. Campsites are along beautiful Spearfish Creek adjacent to the hatchery.
WE PREFER A WRITTEN RESUME OVER VOLUNTEER.GOV APPLICATIONS.
