The Marin Headlands, part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, encompasses 12,000 acres of open space, extending from the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge to Muir Beach. The area, renowned for its geological features, also provides habitat for diverse plants and animals including several endangered species. The park contains significant cultural resources such as the Point Bonita Lighthouse.
Description of Duties:
Assist in operation of the Marin Headlands Visitor Center
Research and deliver interpretive programs at the Point Bonita Lighthouse and Nike Missile Site
Issue campground reservations and backcountry permits
Help patrol the 70-mile trail system
Help manage the Marin Headlands docent program
Monitor docent led activities
Help plan and implement special events
Enjoy working with the public
Interest in the natural and cultural history of the San Francisco Bay Area
Ability to work out of doors in sometimes adverse weather conditions
Must hold a valid driver's license
Basic computer skills are helpful.
Training and experience in the field of interpretation
Training in National Park Service policies and mission
Opportunity to work with visitors from around the world.
Time Commitment: This is a full time (40 hour/week) position. Intern schedules generally include weekends and occasional evening shifts. Out-of-pocket expenses and housing may be available. EXPECTED STARTING DATE: April/May 2018
