Piedmont NWR is located in central Georgia and managed by the US Fish an Wildlife Service. The refuge is seeking enthusiastic, friendly volunteers to assist the staff in the day to day operations of the refuge as well as with special hunt programs. Most duties will require the ability to work independently.
Administration: Duites include but are not limited to greeting visitors, answering phones, providing refuge information to the general public, filing, computer data entry, maintaining brochures at Piedmont & Bond Swamp NWR"s.
General Mainenance: Duties include but are not limited to: trail and sign maintenance, light painting, carpentry and plumbing repairs, mowing, boundary marking. Ability to work with hand tools and small mowers.
Habitat Projects: assist staff wih marking timber, invasive plant control, prescribed fire preparation, wildlife and plant monitoring.
Valid drivers license is required to operate government vehicles. Some opportunities including computer access and working with children will require a federal background check which will be initiated by the refuge.
Volunteers will be required to provide their own factory built RV. In return for 24hrs per person(couple) or 32 hrs(single) per week, the refuge will provide full hookups that include 50 and 30 amp electric, water & sewer. A minimum of 3 month commitment is required.
Currently we are accepting applications for the Fall of 2019 or the Winter 2020. The fall period will run from August 20 to December 13, 2019. The winter period will start January 8, 2020.
